Happy New Year Glenwood Families- I hope the new year is off to a great start for your family! We are so excited to have the children back in the building. We have a busy semester ahead, so we appreciate your help in ensuring students are present, on time, and ready to learn every day, ALL day. Please continue to stay connected by asking your children about their day and keeping an eye on backpacks, emails, and calls for school updates. Your partnership with our teachers makes a world of difference. A special thank you to our Guardian, Parent & Teacher Organization(GPTO) for the holiday gifts! The staff had so much fun with the prize wheel. If you haven't joined the GPTO yet, I highly encourage you to do so—it’s a great way to support our school community. Hello Glenwood Families! I hope you're all enjoying the beautiful Midwestern fall weather! I know I have no complaints—these last few warm days here in Illinois have been absolutely perfect, especially for someone like me who loves warm weather. The students are loving it too! They’ve been able to go outside every day without jackets, and it's such a joy to see them playing, laughing, and enjoying time together. We all know the colder days are ahead, so we’re soaking up every moment of sunshine while we can.

Dear Glenwood Families, I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well and settling into the new school year smoothly. We are so excited to welcome both returning and new families to Glenwood Elementary! The energy and excitement in the building these first few weeks have been truly inspiring, and we are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth together.

Hello Families - We are down to the last 23 days of school. It is very important that you let us know if your child will be attending Waukegan schools next year. Please complete the online registration by Sunday! Yes! This is a new deadline because an incoming kindergarten registration event had to be rescheduled for Saturday(5/3/25).

Hello Families I hope that your spring break with your children at home was fun and relaxing for you. ​ I want to take this time to remind you that the online registration process for next year has begun. The only thing that you will need to do is log-in and verify that the current information on file is correct. Please take this time to update phone numbers and emergency contact information as needed. If you have your log-in information, go ahead and get your child registered. If you need your portal letter again, email or call the school and the secretaries will get the information to you.

On Friday, March 14, all roads led to Glenwood’s Girl’s Choice Dance. With a Mardi Gras theme, Glenwood Tiger-ettes brought their special “choice” escorts to this fun-filled evening. Many thanks to Ms. Salmon, the coordinator of this event, our seasoned Dee jays, Ms. Jankovich and Mr. Moorehouse, and the many staff members who helped to decorate and support this special evening. A great time was had by all! Go Glenwood Tigers and Tiger-ettes!

Hello Families It is that time of year again where we are seeking your input about the state of our school. You may have received a message about the 5Essential Survey. This is how you tell us. The survey focuses on school climate and learning conditions. By completing the survey, we are able to hear your voices and use the information as we plan for improvements each year.

On Thursday, February 13th, from 5-7 pm, Glenwood Tigers and parents were treated to an informative and enjoyable experience of Encore-related activities. Parents and children were given the opportunity to engage in activities together related to STEM, PE, Art, and Music.

On Friday, February 21, Glenwood Elementary School was well represented at the district celebration for Black History Month. The Glenwood dance club, led by Ms. Gonzalez-Plaza and Ms. Anguiano, performed a dance to “Brown-skinned Girl,” a contemporary song that encouraged people to love themselves as they are. The dancers, attired in kinte cloth costumes, did a wonderful job in conveying the message through well coordinated movements.

Dear Glenwood Family, February can sometimes be a challenging stretch for students at school. It is the time when expectations become greater and students are expected to do things more independently. Just as we do here at school, please encourage your child to put forth his/her very best effort...even when things get hard. Also, you may want to speak with your child about what it means to advocate for oneself. They should ask questions when they don't understand and ask for help when tasks or assignments become a bit challenging.

I hope the time spent with your family and friends over the winter break was safe and peaceful. If for any reason it was not, my hope is that the new year will bring some positive changes. I am looking forward to seeing your children back in school this week.

On Saturday, December 14th, Glenwood Tigers enjoyed a wonderful holiday celebration filled with fun activities. Students took pictures with Santa, enjoyed hot chocolate while making crafts, played musical chairs and had their faces painted. Additionally, families enjoyed a dance performance by students and received gifts and free books. All had a wonderful time!
