On Friday, February 21, Glenwood Elementary School was well represented at the district celebration for Black History Month. The Glenwood dance club, led by Ms. Gonzalez-Plaza and Ms. Anguiano, performed a dance to “Brown-skinned Girl,” a contemporary song that encouraged people to love themselves as they are. The dancers, attired in kinte cloth costumes, did a wonderful job in conveying the message through well coordinated movements.
In addition, fifth graders, Neveah Amos and Ja’lieya Brandin, did dramatic monologues of famous Black leaders: Marvin Collins, prominent educator from Chicago, and Rosa Parks, civil rights activist. Lastly, fourth graders, Jaelynn Dixon and Ka’riya Walker both created a display of the Tuskegee air pilots and were assisted by Ms. Koburi, F.A..C.E. building facilitator. Great job, Glenwood Tigers!!
